London, England, United Kingdom (4E) – Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher died Monday at the age of 87 after a stroke, her spokesman said.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II expressed sadness to hear the death of the “Iron Lady”, who is known to have built a generation of British politics between 1979 and 1990. Buckingham Palace said, “The Queen was sad to hear the news of the death of Baroness Thatcher. Her Majesty will be sending a private message of sympathy to the family.”
She was suffering from dementia and last admitted in hospital last December for removal of growth in her bladder. She was rarely seen in public in recent years.
Conservative leader Michael Howard told Sky News television, “It’s terribly sad news. She was a titan in British politics. “I believe she saved the country, she transformed our economy and I believe she will go down in history as one of our very greatest prime ministers.”
